Vietnam Summary
Vietnam, one of the most questionable wars America has ever fought in. The path it took was even greater. It began with Ho Chi Minh a communist ruler who wanted to over turn the french rule into his own. He revolted against the government, which was probably not the best plan of attack. The government made he flee to China, then soon enough the USSR. Ho came back even stronger then before and ready to fight. When the Vietminh party was created he and the members over threw the french in the 1930's in the battle of Dien Bien Phu. On September 2, 1945 the final battle Declared the Vietnamesse Independent.

The french gave into the communist ruler, but is wasn't the end for the french. In Switzerland a temporary line was drawn in Vietnam at the 17th parallel. Sounds like what the U.S did in Korea. This was only until the french could fully deport out of Vietnam. At the same time the new rulers were in process of being elected to reunite the two sides.

With one side being popular and the other side being squashed like a bug, there was never a real election. Ngo Dinh Diem was the ruler of the south. Ngo Dinh Diem was scared to run against Ho, because Diem was extremely unpopular with the military and how he ruled. The only thing Diem had the Ho didn't was the help of the United States and the French. Since they wanted to contain communism. With Diem being the stubborn ruler the elections never went through. Resulting in war again, the two sides trying to reunite themselves. The U.S plan was to overthrow Diem, that didn't work to well. He was then killed after two months of trying to over throw him. With The U.S sent over Military advisors to help the South side of Vietnam. Both who wanted to see communism end. It was when the plan to attack the Gulf of Tonkin planned by Johnson was introduced. The plan was for the United states to attack Gulf of Tonkin and go into combat against the Vietnamese. This was the first time there were actual soldiers instead of just advisors.
